Greenhouse Insulation and Weather Protection
Insulate against the elements.
-
Insulating a greenhouse ensures consistent temperatures, reduces energy costs, and extends the growing season. It prevents temperature stress, minimizes condensation, and maintains optimal humidity, promoting healthier plant growth.
-
Cedar slats cover white foam insulation, adding a refined, natural finish to the greenhouse interior. The warm tones of cedar enhance aesthetics, protect the insulation, and create a polished, functional, and visually appealing environment.
-
The insulation used in the greenhouse is 3" thick high-density Styrofoam board. For interior siding, tongue and groove (T&G) kiln dried clear Western Red Cedar.
Our clients have verified that our greenhouses will endure the elements:
“My greenhouse survived hurricane Gustav with no problem"
With all of the damages that were incurred in this area for hurricane Gustav, you can be proud that one of your greenhouses stood strong against this mighty storm.
“Even though we evacuated, I know that we had winds in excess of 130 mph at times. I expected to see parts of the greenhouse all over the field, because of the damage to houses and barns that we saw returning home. I was very pleased to see, that nothing was out of place. A few of my neighbors could not believe that it was still standing.” R. Houma. LA (14x24)
“You will be happy to know the greenhouse took the full brunt of the storm”
Recently in 2022, we had a freak storm go through the Ottawa area causing extensive damage and widespread power outages. The wind storm was equivalent than EF -2 tornado with winds of 190 km/hr which caused many very large trees to be uprooted in our area (including next door a few feet from the greenhouse). The only damage was the result of the roof vents being open and one was ripped off. It was easily put back with a few screws. Nothing else in the greenhouse was damaged and all the plants remained untouched. Superb! Many thanks, N. Jolin (8x8)
“Last night a 70 MPH wind went through"
"Missouri's weather is very changeable, from well below zero with blizzards and ice storms in the winter, to 100 plus degrees with tornadoes and thunderstorms in the summer. Just wanted to say, THANKS and what a joy it has been dealing with y’all!” R. McClure (8x10 Crowning Jewel)
“Our greenhouse is fighting the elements of whatever comes our way”
"We are in the midst of winter and our greenhouse is fighting the elements of whatever comes our way. Surprisingly, with a few nights of -13°C, our roses and geraniums have survived with no heat!” M. Thiffault (8x12 Free-Standing.) Nova Scotia, Canada (Atlantic East Coast)
“It has withstood 110 mph winds here on the Anchorage, Alaska hillside without any issues! We absolutely love our Cedar-Built greenhouse.” A. Reed
“We have had 3 storms with winds exceeding 50 mph, 2 snowstorms with 8 inches each. It withstood these conditions without any difficulty”
“I am extremely pleased with the quality of the greenhouse, the beauty of the wood is incredible! The instructions were easy enough for us to follow. We had no difficulty. Godzilla (our biggest dog) 'supervised' the construction and spends a lot of time in the greenhouse with me. I've even moved one of his beds in there so he can be comfortable. I would have no hesitation recommending your company to anyone thinking of building a greenhouse. In fact, I already have!" Marie’s longhouse. PA (12x30)
“Our winter guests that come over for coffee prefer to sit in the greenhouse rather than in the living room!"
"During the winter I have a HID light that goes back and forth on a track. I had it on an for five hours after it got dark each night during daylight savings time. We had carrots, lettuce, pole beans, bush beans, basil, and a tomato plant. "We have been enjoying the vegetables of our labors for two winters now. Around Christmas time, the scarlet runner beans were flowering. There is nothing like fresh beans in December and the greenhouse buried under snow! A. Rowland (12x12 Lean-To)
“We had another day with 100+ winds… the greenhouse withstood it and we are very happy about that!” V. Reza and G. Hubert
“The snow during the winter didn't cause any problems at all.”
"I spent a great deal of time researching, before I decided to purchase a Cedar-Built and I know I made the right choice. My GH certainly has extended my growing season in NH. Working in my GH is no work at all. It is a pleasure. It is so pretty inside and out. It is both therapeutic as well as a wonderful-looking addition to my backyard. This GH is so well constructed and sturdy and of the highest quality.” Sincerely, S. Wickey (8x12, NH)
